A Long Way From Home, Still Victorious!

In one of the most electric matches of the MASL 2 season, Certified Lions edged Soles de Sonora 6-5 in overtime on Saturday night at Gimnasio Unison in Hermosillo, Mexico. The win extended the Lions’ streak to four straight victories and further reinforced their status as one of the league’s most formidable sides.

Playing on the road in Mexico presents a difficult challenge, especially against an experienced Soles de Sonora side backed by a strong home crowd. The atmosphere at Gimnasio Unison was intense as Soles returned to action in front of their supporters. Despite the setting, the Lions remained composed in a tightly contested match, with both teams trading leads throughout all four quarters. Captain Fernando Penalver once again made the difference, scoring a hat trick to take his league total to 14 goals. The Lions’ defense then held firm in the closing moments to protect a one goal advantage and secure two important points away from home.

There is little time to rest as the Lions look to carry their momentum into February. The team is set to face the Texas Spurs on February 7, 2026, in Allen, Texas. The last meeting between the two sides also took place in Allen, where the Lions delivered a dominant 11-4 performance earlier in January. This upcoming rematch will once again test the Lions on the road. A win in Texas would extend the winning streak to five and further strengthen the Lions’ push toward the playoffs.

The Lions will then return home on February 13 to host the Texas Spurs. Tickets and additional match information are available now on the official Certified Lions FC website or you can BUY TICKETS HERE!
