Certified Lions Fall Just Short in 4-3 Thriller Against Mexico City

OKLAHOMA CITY — In a top league clash of undefeated West Division teams, the OKC Certified Lions (now 8-1) fell 4-3 to Mexico City on Saturday night at the OG&E Coliseum.

The Lions opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Jesus Fernando Penalver, but Mexico City quickly answered to tie it 1-1. In the second period, Mexico City took control, building a 3-1 halftime lead behind goals from Ángel Rodrigo Castro and Eduardo Dávalos.

The Lions fought back in the second half, with Kenneth Gaytan scoring twice to keep the game close. However, Castro's second goal of the night late in the third period provided just enough cushion for Mexico City's defense to hold on for the one-goal victory.

Despite their first defeat of the season, holding a previously 9-0 opponent to just four goals highlights the Lions' strong defensive capabilities.

Now sitting at second place in the league with 23 points, the Certified Lions have officially clinched a playoff position to compete at nationals. The team will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they travel to Hermosillo to play Soles de Sonora on Saturday, April 4 at 6:00 PM.
